Misplaced Ethical Duty.
“Justice delayed
is Justice denied.” This quote is resembled throughout the duration of the
movie Shawshank Redemption through the main character Andy Dufresne. A man who was convicted of a crime he didn’t commit
stealing years off of his life. A crucial part of the movie seen to your left is wear Andy’s
innocence is approached again, and the truth is free to be embraced by the
right people. Should have been a turning point in the movie, a scene wear
justice and moral ethics should have come together to grant Andy the justice he
deserved. But, it failed because the legal professionals in charge of shawshank
prison –who Andy sought to help free him—would not comprehend this new evidence
that could grant Dufresne the justice he deserved as a human being because he
needed Andy for his own profit. So, Instead of helping Andy which is the legal professionals
moral and ethical duty to Andy, he had the evidence silenced (Killed) to keep
his criminal transactions intact.
The legal professional in charge didn’t have impartiality in his prisoner’s case. Instead the professional showed favor toward himself and the money that he was acquiring from his off handed deals. The dirty professional needed Andy’s banking skills to help hide his illegal transactions. This is an example of how the legal system we as a nation rely so heavily on can falter and rob someone of the freedom they so rightfully deserve. The study of criminal ethics is used as a stop gap measure so mistakes like these don’t happen. Though criminal justice ethics in reference to this movie acts as if everyone in a legal profession will adhere to the rule and standards set forth, and it won’t. Because the system is designed in a way for people to take advantage through their power and authority creating opportunities and with these opportunities come immoral and unethical gains in the form of bribes, kickbacks, power etc.

Andy Ethical And Moral Duty to Himself:
As you all know from watching the
clip above Andy Dufresne was an “innocent” man. I use the word innocent loosely because
according to the law and the trial he had in front of a jury of his peers Andy
is guilty. But, the question or more like the problem lies with Andy escaping
shawshank prison. The question is because
Andy was falsely convicted was Andy committing a crime when he escaped from
shawshank prison? The answer I find myself reflecting to is that he is
innocent, and no matter the ethical stance of the courts judging a case on inaccurate
information will hinder that statement. I believe that Andy fought for himself
by escaping because watching the movie you know that unless Andy fights for
himself the prison will become his grave. So, I believe that no crime was
committed with Andy escape because there was no justification of his presence
in the prison to begin with after the truth of his innocence came to light. Also,
after Andy’s escape, he helped shine light on the wardens corrupted dealings
inside the prison showing an ethical duty to his self and his fellow inmates by
fighting for fairness and impartiality.
